Ravensbrück Memorial Museum
Exhibition Opening on the life of Vilma Steindling
12. December 2025 – 11:00 - 12:00 Uhr
From 8 to 12 December 2025, the Ravensdruck art project will take place for the twelfth time at the Ravensbrück Memorial Museum. This year, students from the Ernst Litfaß School in Berlin will create prints inspired by the life story of Vilma Steindling. The project will be especially enriched by the involvement of Ruth Steindling, Vilma Steindling’s daughter.
The opening will take place on Friday, 12 December, at 11 am in the main foyer of the Memorial. Ruth Steindling will also be present at the opening.
Vilma Steindling (1919–1993) was a Jewish communist from Vienna. She was active in the Résistance, arrested in 1942 and deported to Auschwitz. In January 1945, she was forced to join one of the so-called death marches and was taken to the Ravensbrück women’s concentration camp, where she was liberated in April 1945. After the war, she returned to Vienna.
Together with Claudia Erdheim, Ruth Steindling recorded her mother’s life story. The book Vilma Steindling. Eine jüdische Kommunistin im Widerstand was first published in 2017 by Amalthea Verlag. Further information on the book can be found here.
The Ravensdruck project is made possible with the support of the Dr Hildegard Hansche Foundation and the International Friends of Ravensbrück Association (IFK).
