Ravensbrück Memorial Museum
Digital ASF Salon: The Denied Victims of National Socialism
02. December 2025 – 18:00 - 19:30 Uhr
Among the long-denied victim groups of National Socialism are people who were persecuted as so-called ‘asocials’ and ‘professional criminals.’ The National Socialists used these derogatory terms to describe a very heterogeneous group, including homeless people, people with addictions, the unemployed, and many others who did not fit into the image of the ‘people's community.’ They were disenfranchised, criminalised, persecuted, deported to concentration camps and murdered.
Classism, deeply rooted in Nazi racial ideology, was the reason for their persecution and their lack of recognition after 1945. Classism, i.e. the devaluation and exclusion of people based on their social origin and status, is still part of our society today. It was not until 2020, 75 years after the end of the Nazi regime, that the German Bundestag recognised the victim groups – a belated and hard-won step. Even today, the stories of persecution are hardly known to the public.
We talk to relatives and experts about the long road to recognition and continuities into the present day and invite you to join the discussion with:
- Mascha Krink, relative, artist and podcaster
- Ines Eichmüller, Association for the Remembrance of the Denied Victims of National Socialism
- Oliver Gaida, Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
- Dr Andrea Genest, Ravensbrück Memorial (moderator)
