Ravensbrück Memorial Museum
Inauguration of the FrauenOrte Plaque Honoring the International Ravensbrück Committee
14. September 2025 – 14:00 - 16:00 Uhr
On the Day of the Open Monument, we invite you to the inauguration of the new FrauenOrte plaque honoring the International Ravensbrück Committee (IRC). With this plaque, the IRC is recognized as the 51st FrauenOrt in the state of Brandenburg. It marks a place of remembrance for the women who were imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp, for those who advocated for a memorial site after the war, and for all who continue to keep the memory alive.
The International Ravensbrück Committee was founded by survivors of the camp and is now carried forward by their descendants. It stands for decades of commitment to remembrance and for a clear stance against fascism, war and racism, in Europe and beyond.
The event begins with a welcome by Dr Andrea Genest, Director of the Ravensbrück Memorial Museum. This will be followed by an introduction to the history of the IRC and the unveiling of the plaque. A guided tour on the history and legacy of the committee will conclude the event.
Details of the program will be announced soon.
The plaque is part of the FrauenOrte project in Brandenburg, coordinated since 2010 by the Women’s Political Council of Brandenburg (Frauenpolitischer Rat Land Brandenburg e. V.). The project highlights the contributions of significant women in the region’s history, on site, online and in exhibitions.
This plaque is supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs in the district of Oberhavel.
