Ravensbrück Memorial Museum
‘What colour is memory?’
07. January - 09. January 2026
Emmie Arbel was four and a half years old when she was deported to a concentration camp. She survived Ravensbrück and Bergen-Belsen, lost her parents and, despite everything, built a new life for herself.
Four actors embark on a search for clues in Emmie's story and in their own: How can one continue to live with painful memories? What connects us to a past we did not experience ourselves, as descendants of silent families, as young mothers, as Jewish people in Germany today?
The play moves between times and perspectives. It tells the story of a woman who did not give up and of a younger generation searching for new forms of remembrance culture. It is about stories that must not be lost and the question of how they can become a compass for today's actions.
Based on the graphic novel ‘Die Farbe der Erinnerung’ (The Colour of Memory) by Barbara Yelin. A continuation of the production ‘Manche Sachen weiß ich, aber ich erinnere mich nicht’ (Some things I know, but I don't remember) with the youth club ‘Ensemble Angestrahlt’ in cooperation with the Ravensbrück Memorial.
