Contemporary Witness Talk with Concentration Camp Survivor Ib Katznelson

01. December 2025 – 17:00 - 19:00 Uhr

In the autumn of 1943, Ib Katznelson (*1941) was deported as a small child together with his Jewish parents from Denmark to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. His father was sent to Sachsenhausen. Before that, the family had tried to escape the persecution of the Nazi occupation forces by fleeing to Sweden. Mother and son were later deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto near Prague in April 1944, where they were reunited with the father. The family was liberated in April 1945 by the White Buses.

For decades, Ib Katznelson has been actively engaged as a contemporary witness, advocating for remembrance and education. In 2023, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, First Class. His autobiography “Let Him Die: A Danish Child in Ravensbrück and Theresienstadt” (Metropol Verlag) has now been published in German translation.
